Founded in 1950, the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting a remarkable array of artifacts that trace the history of pharmacy and medicine from the 19th century through the early to mid-20th century, with a special emphasis on New Orleans and Louisiana. The museum itself is housed in a significant historic landmark—a classic Creole townhouse built in 1822–1823 in the French Quarter—which once served as both the apothecary and home of Louis J. Dulfilho Jr., the first licensed pharmacist in the United States, until 1855.
