George Rodrigue Museum

Our Story

Born and raised in Cajun Country, Louisiana, artist George Rodrigue dedicated his work to capturing a heritage he feared was fading—its landscapes, people, traditions, and folklore. As he often said, his goal was to “graphically interpret the Cajun culture,” preserving its spirit in an ever-changing world.

Educated at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, Rodrigue went on to become one of the most celebrated figures in American art. In the early 1990s, his iconic Blue Dog series—rooted in the French-Cajun loup-garou legend—brought him international acclaim, while his moody, Renaissance-inspired landscapes evolved into powerful modern works.
